group classes

JOIn me for a group class focused on control unleashed pattern games!

when:

This course takes place on two Sundays: 2/22 and 3/1 from 5-7PM

where:

East Bay SPCA: 8323 Baldwin St., Oakland, CA

What:

This is an in-person group class focused on learning the pattern games in the Control Unleashed framework, created by Leslie McDevitt MA CDBC

Put simply, this is a series of training games that you can use to help your dog feel more comfortable and confident in the world.
CU games are designed to be simple for both dog and handler, to empower both ends of the leash.  You will learn to harness the powers of predictability, choice, and positive reinforcement.  We will pay careful attention to your dog’s body language and their offered behaviors to ensure that they remain under threshold- meaning they feel safe enough to learn.  This approach centers joyful participation, which leads to more humane and effective behavior modification than traditional coercive training methods.

cost:

This course is $250 for working spots and $60 for an auditor spot

Payment is required before the class begins and refunds are not available for missing the class.

logistics:

This class with have 4 working spots and 4 non-working auditor spots (human only attends). All dogs will be behind x-pens with visual barriers. We will be meeting in the indoor classroom at East Bay SPCA. Dogs will not be meeting during the class and I will strive to make sure your dog can stay under threshold throughout the course.

Aversive tools such as prong collars, choke chains, e-collars, slip leads, and head halters will not be permitted during this course.

While not required, masks are encouraged.

who should attend?

This course if perfect for people that want to strengthen their communication and bond with their pup while taking a deeper dive into the how and why of modern positive reinforcement training methods. You will learn more about how to add more choice and help your dog feel more confident around potential triggers. As this is a group class, dogs that have a hard time being around other people or pups might have a hard time, but accommodations can be made! If you think your pup will not be able to handle the group setting, I encourage you to check out an auditor spot.
